Selmer Paris – 1957

This is a vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor saxophone, serial number 69858. The saxophone was manufactured in 1957. Like many of the best VI's this one shows history of having received a lot of play time in its day. The body is in solid condition with some history of past repair. It is currently in line in our shop to receive a top notch mechanical restoration and ships out in perfect playing condition.

Saxquest has had a number of the five digit Mark VI's through our shop over the years. They are a great way to go if you are looking for a powerful player with a lot of color and easy response. This one in particular had the majority of the finished removed by a previous owner. The physical body of the tenor is in great shape showing some history of repair. Because it is mostly in raw brass it is pretty hard to know the exact history. Looking over it carefully there has been some past solder repair as well as some body work around the bottom bow. Someone had an additional connecting arm added between the F and F# pad cups. This is a somewhat standard modification we see on many Mark VIs. The idea of the modification is to add additional support in the bottom key stack. This saxophone is with a slightly later vintage Mark VI neck. The neck currently has an old pickup plug in it. But this will be professionally removed while the horn is at our shop.

The last owner of this saxophone clearly put a lot of love and play time on it. At this time the pads on the sax are all past their prime and are due to be replaced. As such it is currently in line to receive mechanical restoration in our shop. The Saxquest professional overhaul will included a dissemble, cleaning and body work followed by a precise regulation and set up with all new premium pro pads, metal dome resonators, new corks and new felts. The work will also include correcting the pull down on the neck and the removal of the pick up.

This tenor ships out in perfect playing condition with an older Selmer flight case.
