This is a very early vintage Selmer Paris Mark VII alto sax, serial number 245318. The serial number dates this horn to 1975, the first year of the Mark VII. As such, it still features Mark VI American style engraving (before they stopped engraving Mark VII's). There's a moderate amount of lacquer wear, but physically no previous damage or repairs, and it will ship with a fresh overhaul from our repair shop.

As you can see in the photos, it's not the prettiest of horns, but the lacquer wear is purely cosmetic. It is all original, having never been relacquered/refinished. There's also no dents, dings, or previous repairs (like resolders) anywhere on the horn. The bell flare, bottom bow, and bell-to-body brace are all perfect. The original neck has also never been pulled down. The horn has been played, but obviously never abused.

This horn came to us on old pads well past prime. To do it up right, the alto will go through our shop for a fresh pro repad. We'll replace all pads and material (premium firm leather pads with oversized, seamless nickel domed resonators), and complete it with a precise regulation of spring tensions and key heights. A ~$1500 value, all included in the price.

The Mark VII has always gotten a lot of heat, but I find they are excellent horns for students on a budget, or anyone looking for the classic “Selmer sound” without paying Mark VI money. It plays with a focused sound that is not too dark nor too bright; giving you flexibility to take it in any direction you want to go. Has a good, resonant response too, so you don't have to worry about it feeling stuffy or constricting. Solid, dependable horn, and ships in its original Selmer Paris wood Vanguard case.
