Sweet original lacquer Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax with American style engraving, serial number 176851. This is a true “one owner” horn, purchased new in 1970 and played professionally for years. It shows normal wear-and-tear from a lifetime of enjoyment, but is better than average cosmetically, and will come with a fresh restoration from our shop.

The original lacquer shows normal wear, but the horn has obviously never been through any trauma. A couple tiny pings will be removed in our shop, but there are no signs of past major damage or repair, including no resolders. It was played, but obviously never abused. The original neck was slightly pulled down in the past, but professionally corrected, and shows no other dent work/repair. The bell flare has never been bent, the bottom bow never took a serious hit. All very straight top to bottom.

Like most busy musicians, the previous owner had pads replaced as needed over the years, but it has never received a full, pro overhaul. It even still had some factory original pads when we got it! As such, it is currently in our shop in line for a complete rebuild. We'll do a deep cleaning inside and out, replace all pads and material, and optimize key heights and spring tensions throughout. Will feel (and play) like a new horn again!

Currently playing through some leaks, you can still get a feel for the warmth and presence this alto has. Definitely a warmer sound, so I can see this being a great horn for jazz or even classical, with the right mouthpiece. Can't wait to give this one a whirl once our work is complete. There's a whole lot of horns out there that have been bounced around, and we rarely find one-owner horns anymore. The original case came in pretty rough with broken zippers, so we'll be shipping in a new Protec Max series case.
