This is a 1958 vintage “The Martin Bari” sax, serial number 204900. Officially known as the Martin Committee (the third such title in the series), most people know them for the engraving on the bell. This one needs some love, but if you have some patience, it can be made into a great player again.

The good news is this bari has never been relacquered. While the original lacquer has plenty of wear, the horn has never been refinished/buffed. However, there is a fair amount of dent work and previous repairs, including resolders around the bottom of the tube and bottom bow posts and guards. The bottom bow itself has a lot of dings and dimples. The easiest solution to clean that up would be to unsolder the bottom bow, remove all those dents, and solder it all back together. If you have access to the proper tools, it is all straight forward work.

Pads are actually not in all that bad of shape, fitted with brown plastic resonators. However, the horn is not playing as it sits. It will need some dent work in upper crook and to fix some regulation issues in the action to get it right. The original neck also shows some past dent repair. It does have the matching serial number stamped in it.

I've had the fortune to play a handful of THE MARTIN BARI saxes over the years, and when they are up and and in good playing shape, they hold their own with anything out there. This horn is priced well to give you plenty of room to get the work one and have a killing horn. Ships in solid hard case.
