HELP, I Want One!

Selmer BA Alto – 1937
This is an earlier vintage Selmer Paris “Balanced Action” alto saxophone, serial number 23513. It is currently playing through leaks on an older set of pads. As our shop is very backed up at this time we are selling a number of great items in as is condition at lower prices.

A classic Balanced Action from 1937 this alto showcases elaborate floral engraving with a sailboat and lake centerpiece on the bell. Like the majority of the Balanced Actions out there this one was re-lacquered at some point in the past. The current lacquer shows the proper dark nitro cellulose color and does not appear to have been overly buffed as the engraving is still very well defined. Going over the horn top to bottom the body tube, bow and bell are all in excellent condition. The saxophone does not have any signs of ever receiving serious body repair or abuse in the past. All of the key work and guards are present and in good condition. A previous owner did have the area next to the thumb rest reinforced with an additional piece of brass. This is a fairly common modification done to prevent the thumb from wearing through the brass on the body tube.

This sax came into our shop playing down to low Bb through some leaks on an older set of pads and metal resonators. Ultimately the alto is going to need to be overhauled before it can be considered to be in perfect playing condition. But at the moment it is playing decently as it sits. Our shop is very backed up at this time so we are selling a number of great items in as is condition at a lower price. If you are not in a hurry and would like us to do the overhaul on this horn please make the selection at check out to add the work. The Saxquest overhaul would include a dissemble, cleaning, necessary key fitting and a fresh set-up with all new pads, corks, felts and metal domed resonators.  Our overhaul turnaround time on this saxophone is around 10-12 weeks at this time.

Ships in vintage wood hard case.
