This is a very early vintage (1936) original lacquer CG Conn 26M “Connqueror” series alto sax, serial number 272282. This alto was just overhauled in our repair shop by Josh Creekmore and is in tremendous shape. It feels and plays like a new horn, and is ready to go.

The Connqueror horns, the 26M alto and 30M tenor, are arguably the best saxes Conn ever made. It features sterling silver key touches on all the side/palm keys, rolled tone holes, trill G#, set screws everywhere, double socket receiver neck, etc. These early ones also have the Connqueror name engraved on the bell, something that was later dropped. This alto also shows a very uniquely designed neck, with a different octave key than normally seen on these horns, and shows that Conn was constantly innovating and trying new things.

This alto was carefully restored in its original lacquer (80-85% intact). We did some minor dent work in the bottom area, all very carefully done, and the only resolders are found on the original right hand swivel thumbrest and the low Eb keyguard. The sax has ll new premium firm leather pads matched with brown plastic cone resonators. We also replaced the aging rollers with new mother-of-pearl rollers handcrafted in our shop, as well as upgraded the original set screws with stainless steel throughout. It is a complete rebuild top to bottom and is in flawless playing shape.

Sonically, this is a powerful player with a big, open sound and extremely fast response. Definitely on the spread side, it takes all of the air you can push and then some. Very full sound that doesn't back down. This is a premium 26M for serious Conn enthusiasts.
