King Zephyr 1935
This is a super early vintage King Zpehyr alto saxophone in original silver plate finish, serial number 179884. These first series Zephyrs have a unique look which features open faced key guards and square shaped key touches on low C, Eb and chromatic F#. The gold wash around the bell key as well as the engraving around the bell are also standout features. These saxophones are a blast to play. They showcase a quick air intake and a robust free blowing response. A very powerful and fun to play alto.

The body of this Zephyr is in beautiful condition showing history of some repair. Looking over the alto carefully there was some previous dents removed around the bow area and the bow cap was very slightly pushed in on one side. This is very slight and is hard to see. There was also a number of key posts which received solder repair in the past. It looks like the alto was previously worked on by a decent tech and these areas are difficult to see unless you look very closely. The saxophone includes the original neck with matching serial number stamp. This neck has been slightly pulled down.

This Zephyr was overhauled in another shop several years ago. The tech chose to use a standard grade leather pad with metal waffle resonators. These pads do not look like they have seen a lot of use but are already on the older side. At this time the horn is playing decently through some leaks down to a low Bb. The pads and key materials are all pretty hard and noisy. It is playing in as is condition right now. If you plan on using the horn for serious playing or performance it would be worth investing in some service work. At the very least it would benefit from a pro set up and have the key materials changed out as well as some of the pads. The most discerning players and techs might prefer to overhaul it to their own specification.

Sax ships in as is condition with case.
