Here we have a vintage Conn New Wonder II 'Chu Berry' alto saxophone in silver plate, serial number #164922. The New Wonder line was manufactured from 1915-1931 with two series, the second, this one, beginning in '25. The main difference between these two horns is only a few distinct key designs, but the two have more in common than not. The 'Chu' has a signature 'nail file' textured G#, trill/alternate G# and D# options in the right hand, rolled tone holes, blued steel needle springs, real mother-of-pearl key touches, and a micro-tuner neck.

These horns play with a warm texture and a powerful core, resistance is almost nonexistent on these horns as they are more free blowing than almost any horn vintage or modern. Unfortunately, this horn doesn't play at all and needs a full overhaul!

Sporting some very old Conn reso-pads, this horn needs a full overhaul and a few replaced springs. There is a little wear forming on key touches, but they were protected by a clear coat. It seems not only a clear coat, but a gold lacquer-wash was added at some point to maintain the plating, which has a very nice color in certain spots. Bad news though, if the clear coat is stripped, the silver will probably come off with it, potentially this horn's future finish will be raw brass after a proper overhaul.

Our repair shop at Saxquest is quite backlogged, so we will be offering this vintage sax in as-is condition for a reduced price. This horn ships with its original neck and wooden box case with a plush blue interior.
