Made for Sherman Clay & Co San Francisco
This is a very cool early vintage Buffet Evette tenor saxophone in silver plate, serial number 17691. The saxophone is in great physical condition showing off silver plate finish with gold wash bell flare and a some rarely seen auxiliary key work. The key work includes a front F key, double octave key, right hand levers for low C#, B and Bb. It also has a very unique secondary padded key which rests on top of the low D pad cup. The bell engraving reads “Sherman Clay & Co San Francisco”.

This saxophone was most likely manufactured in raw brass. It was later restored with silver plating with a gold wash accent on the bell and gold plating on the neck. This saxophone is currently with a set of standard leather pads with metal domed resonators. At this time the saxophone is only playing down to the middle G. But that being said you can still get an idea for the overall character of sound on the horn. Very focused and centered with a complex dark sound.

Due to the unique nature of this instrument we are selling it in as is condition. This is an extremely rare example of an early presentation Buffet Saxophone. Because it is highly rare saxophone it is most ideal for the avid saxophone collector looking for examples of turn of the century specimens.
