Here's a rare horn you are unlikely to see again. This is a vintage Walberg & Auge baritone sax, serial number 93320. Walberg & Auge was a repair shop based out of Massachusetts, but who also made percussion. At some point in the 50s or 60s, they obviously wanted to get into selling some horns too, thus this beast. It looks to have been made by Kohlert (is stamped “Made in Germany”, has rolled tone holes, and has Kohlert-style keys).

While this horn shows a lot of cosmetic wear, it is indeed original lacquer and has never been refinished. There's a lot of dings and dimples especially in the bottom bow area, as well as a couple old re-solders down there. The neck is original to the horn and has been previously pulled down, but shows no cracks. Pads are surprisingly in decent shape, and while there are definitely some leaks it looks like there is still quite a bit of life left in them. At this time the horn is playing in the mid range and upper register. Unfortunately due to the horn currently needing to be serviced it is not possible to play the entire range of this instrument. From what I was able to play I can get a sense this sax has a rich and deep resonant character.

Before the horn will be ready for any serious playing it will need some general service work and replacement of materials. Ideally the horn could also stand to be taken apart and cleaned as well.

Saxquest has a large number of great vintage items in need of repair. At this time we are selling many of them in as is condition at lower prices. This baritone ships out in as is condition with a large wood hard case.
