Everyone knows the Keilwerth name, but Kohlert was another German sax maker who put out some good horns for a short time in the 50s and 60s. This is the Kohlert '57 (produced in 1957) tenor sax, serial number 44552. Featuring true rolled tone holes and in original lacquer, this is a cool horn for players who like the vintage stuff.

This tenor is in good overall condition, with original lacquer showing surface scratching throughout the body but no large swaths of bare brass or finish wear. A couple tiny dings and a resoldered joint here or there, but no major past trauma. The original neck has previously been pulled down and shows a bit more previous dent work, but it is still in solid overall shape. Most of the rolled tone holes are still in pristine shape; a couple in the upper stack do appear to have been filed on at some point in the horn's life.

This tenor is currently playing on very old pads that have outlived their usefulness. The sax is in need of a proper repad, but with our shop backed up, we are offering it as-is. Because the horn is so straight, it should be a very straight forward repad and new material. If you tinker in repair and have a bench at home, this could be a good opportunity for you to get a classic German-made sax back in playing shape.
