In 1858, a musician was born who would grow to have considerable influence on the saxophone community. Although clarinet was his main instrument, indeed he held such esteemed posts as solo clarinettist at the Opéra Comique Orchestra in Paris and was a member of the Lamoureux Orchestra, he managed to influence the sound of saxophonists the world over.
