On July 7, 1956, the Duke Ellington Orchestra was featured at the Newport Jazz Festival. Midway through Ellington's "Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue", Paul Gonsalves took a solo that to this day is one of the most famous and beautifully constructed blues solos of all time.
