This is a very nice looking Martin Committee III tenor sax, serial number 184706. Known popularly as the “The Martin Tenor” model, this sax was produced in 1953. This tenor was relacquered long ago, but looks great with a darker, aged patina, and plays well on good pads.

I'm not sure how old the relacquering job was on this horn, but it sure doesn't look like it has been played much since the work. There are signs of previous dent work before the process, such as some waving in the lacquer in the bottom bow, indicative of past work, but no signs of repair since the new lacquer was applied, and the lacquer is about 99% intact at the moment. The sax also has its original neck, with matching serial number, and the neck has never been pulled down or damaged. This sax arrived to us playing on good pads, fitted with brown plastic resonators. While the pads are good, the set up was not, with some low key heights, so it will get a fresh regulation from our repair shop before shipping.

This is a fantastic option for players looking for a solid tenor under $2k. It plays with a good response and has a lot of resonance. At upper volumes, you can really feel the resonance under your fingers. I didn't find it too dark nor too bright, so I think you can pair it well with the right mouthpiece that works for you, and take it in your preferred direction. Solid, dependable tenor for the price.
