The Martin Tenor - Killer Player With Fresh Overhaul
This is a clean early vintage Martin Committee “The Martin Tenor” sax, serial number 164252. The serial number dates this sax to 1947, just a couple years after the introduction of this popular model. This sax is fresh out of the shop at Saxquest and has received a very through overhaul by Derick Tramel. Derick did a killer job on the horn. It is now in perfect performance condition and is playing like a real monster. The Saxquest professional overhaul included all new premium leather pads, plastic resonators, corks, felts and a precise key regulation. This saxophone was then extensively play tested and tweaked until we were satisfied it was up to its full potential.
This tenor was re-lacquered long ago, and the “newer” lacquer has aged to a dark brown patina. It shows a moderate amount of finish wear. There is some history of past solder repair work on this sax. As it is now the body is very clean regarding the body tube, bow, bow, bell and bell flare. The sax also includes the original neck with matching serial number in very good condition. It has never been pulled down.
If you've never played one of these vintage Martin tenors you are missing out. This particular tenor has an incredible free blowing response. The sonic character of the instrument is warm but brighter and more intense then you might expect. Maritn's are definitely the underdogs of the vintage American saxophones. This is a highly versatile instrument and can be used in a wide variety of musical settings. While it is not the prettiest it does have it where it counts and can be had at a great price. This is the perfect horn for a real world pro in need of a good tenor.
