Martin Committee III Baritone

This is a sweet late 50s vintage Martin Committee III “The Martin Bari” saxophone, serial number 204890. This horn is a great option for the player looking for their first pro bari on a budget. It has good pads and just needs minor work to be in perfect playing shape.

This bari was relacquered long ago, but not overly buffed, as you can still clearly see all of the detail in the engraving. The “newer” lacquer is just about perfect, with no major finish wear of note. The low Eb keyguard has been resoldered, but amazingly, I see no other signs of past damage or repair. The bottom bow, bell flare all look great. The neck is not original (does not have matching serial number), but is from the same era and has been properly fitted to the sax.

Pads look to be a few years old, fitted with brown plastic resonators. For the most part, they look to be in great shape, but there are some leaks as the horn plays right now, and the keywork is a bit “clicky” from missing and/or compressed material. Optimally, you'll want to get this horn adjusted properly and have a couple pads swapped. Our repair shop is backed up for months, so we've made the decision to sell this bari as-is at a greatly reduced price. It is playing decently until you get down into the bell keys. It should be noted that two of the rollers in the left hand table are pretty worn out and are no longer moving freely.

Currently blowing through some leaks, this horn still generates plenty of volume and has a strong presence. It has a beefy middle range, and while there's more resistance down in the bell keys, I expect that to get better once the sax is regulated. I've played a good number of Martin bari saxes from this era and they always have a huge bottom end when they are playing right. This is a fantastic deal on a solid American made vintage bari sax, and does ship in a hard case.
