Selmer Super Balanced Action

This is a very pretty Selmer Paris Super Balanced Action from 1951, serial number 46815. The SBA altos from the early fifties are super sweet free blowing players. This one takes the air in quick and has a beautiful brilliant color and a balanced response to the way it plays. As expected from any good Selmer the key work feels smooth and ultra fluid under the fingers.

The body of the saxophones is super clean from top to bottom. It was re-lacquered at some point in the past. The work was done well and it still shows clear floral engraving around the bell area. Its current lacquer finish is incredible condition and is not showing any history of major repair. All of the original key work and guards are intact and in good shape. The bell, bow, bow cap and bell flare are also in great shape. This saxophone includes the original neck with matching serial number stamp. The neck is in great shape and was never pulled down in the past.

This saxophone came in playing nicely on an old pad job from another shop. However at this time most of the pads are past their prime. The alto is ultimately going to need to be professionally re-padded in the future before it could be considered in perfect playing condition. Because the overhaul line in our shop is now 10 weeks we are going to sell this saxophone in as is condition at a lower price.

If you have the time to wait and would like us to overhaul the horn we would be happy to do it at a reduced flat rate. The Saxquest overhaul would include a disassemble, cleaning and key fitting followed by replacement of all the materials. When complete it would be in perfect playing condition with a brand new set of premium leather pads, metal resonators, new corks and felts.
