Selmer Mark VI – 1971
This is a super sweet Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone in original gold lacquer, serial number 194317. The alto is great example of a late vintage VI. This particular alto is easily one of the best playing horns we have on the floor at this time. It shows off a great free blowing response while keeping a tight and consistent core. Projection and control are both outstanding on this saxophone. This is the type of alto ideal for the modern professional in need of a horn to play on a multitude of gig types.
Physically this saxophone is pretty clean and straight forward. The original lacquer finish is in good condition showing a modest amount of cosmetic play wear for a good pro horn. The body tube, bell and bell flare are all in nice shape. Looking over the saxophone very carefully there is a few small and hard to see dings around the bottom of the bow and the bow cap has very slightly been pushed in towards the back side of the cap. The original Mark VI neck with this saxophone is in good shape. It does show some wear from years of use but has never been seriously pulled down. This saxophone is with all of the original key work, key pearls and key guards. All of the key guards are in great shape and have no history of solder repair.
This saxophone has been played and cherished over the years. It came into our shop playing on an older pro overhaul from another shop. The pads are all still in good shape with plenty of life left in them. The pads are also outfitted with a set of custom metal oversized resonators. This saxophone is currently in line to be set-up with its current set of pads and resonators. The Saxquest set-up will include a cleaning and precise regulation of the key work with optimization of springs and key heights. While the sax is apart we will also replace any needed key materials.
These are very versatile players and tend to be more focused in comparison to the earlier vintage Selmer models from the 1950's. The flexible playing characteristics of this alto make it ideal for the modern professional. It ships out in perfect playing condition with our set-up and a very nice Walt Johnson hard case.
