This is a great deal on a late 60s vintage Selmer Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 170774. This tenor was probably originally all silver plate, but at some point a previous owner removed the plating from the body, leaving silver only on the keys (and inside the bell). Keyed to high F#, this is a very cool horn for a price that is hard to beat.

This Mark VI has a unique look and is in solid shape. The only real previous repair I can find on the horn is a single resoldered joint, on one foot of the low Eb keyguard, done so well that it is nearly impossible to spot. I don't see any signs of any past dent work and no other resolders. The original neck shows no signs of having previously been pulled down or damaged. This horn was last repadded a few years ago, but not played hard since, and the pads (with metal resonators) are still in excellent condition.

The sax recently received a fresh pro set up from our repair shop and it is playing up a storm! It plays with a big, brash sound. Often the silver Mark VI's play on the warmer side, but this tenor is a bit edgier than I expected, perhaps due to the unlacquered body. Will make for a great rock or funk horn, but you can definitely tone it down with the right mouthpiece if you like.
