This is a great players horn, Selmer Mark VI low Bb baritone saxophone, serial number 228983. A horn like this is ideal for the active pro who is looking to grab a sweet playing baritone at a great price. It is not going to win a beauty contest but is a fabulous player and has been used professionally and maintained by the previous owner.

The sax came into our shop playing nicely on a professional overhaul just a few years old from another pro shop. It was set up with a set of white roo pads and copper resonators. The pads are all in great shape and have a ton of life left in them. Because it is already in good playing condition we will not be doing a full set-up but we will take a look at the horn on the bench to ensure it shops in perfect playing condition.

The photos tell the story of this horn the best. As it sits now it is in solid condition but it does show signs it has had a very active life. This baritone was re-lacquered at some point in the past. It also has history of body and solder repair as well. The past owner also had the neck reinforced with a non original brace for additional support. There has also been an additional support arm added onto the F pad cup. At some point the neck strap ring was also replaced.

As a player this sax takes the air in very quick and is extremely responsive. Compared to other Mark VI's we have had in the shop this one in particular showcases amazing projection and leans towards the brighter side regarding color. Pitch is solid with a great balance and control across all registers.
