HELP, I Want One!

Recently Repadded & in Great Playing Shape

This is a bargain price on a vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto sax, serial number 200381. This alto is a rare low A model, which you don't obviously see very often. It is a cool horn for the collector or player on a budget.

This horn has been recently repadded, and has newer pads fitted with brown plastic resonators. The action is quick and precise from top to bottom, and it will get our fresh adjustment and set up before shipping. We'll replace any material that is starting to age or doesn't meet our standards, and optimize the key heights throughout.

Physically, this horn shows some history, but remains in solid shape. It was relacquered long ago, and shows little lacquer wear since the work. There was obviously some past dent work in the bottom bow area, as the bow cap is not factory, but the work was done very well. The curve of the bow is flawless under you fingers with no crinkling or lumps in the metal, all very smooth feeling. The neck strap ring has been replaced with a more durable piece, otherwise, the rest of the horn is original. The original neck doesn't appear to have ever been pulled down or damaged.

We've had a handful of these low A Mark VI's in over the years, and they are always exciting instruments to play. The bottom end is understandably fuller and “denser” sounding, and the added weight to the instrument does seem to make for an overall darker tone. Still, this alto takes your air well and projection is solid. If you want an alto that will stand out, you don't need to search any further. It comes in a good hard case which accommodates the low A bell perfectly.
