Selmer Balanced Action 1937
This is a vintage Selmer Paris Balanced Action alto saxophone in gold lacquer, serial number 22134. It is currently playing very nicely with work from another shop and is a great choice if you are looking to get into an early Selmer at a lower price point.
The Balanced actions were the first Selmer model to have right side bell keys. They also were manufactured with a different bore and new key work which was the jumping off place for all of the later Selmer models. The first series of Balanced Actions like this one featured key adjustment screws in the lower stack. ( see pictures) As players these Balanced Actions have a much more “open” quality to the way they play and take in air in comparison to the later SBA and Mark VI models.  This one in particular plays with a quick response and a very sweet sonic character.
This saxophone shows a long history of use and past repair. It was re-lacquered a long time ago with the proper air bake lacquer. The lacquer does have the correct dark honey hue. Its current lacquer finish does show some play wear as well as wear from past dent work and solder repair. The bow, bell and bow cap of the sax are all in solid condition as is the original neck. The alto was very recently re-padded by Mike Filice and is playing very nicely on a set of standard grade leather pads and nylon resonators.
In order to keep the cost of this saxophone at a lower premium we are selling it with out adding any of our own set-up work to it. Ships with vintage wood Selmer hard case.
