This is a remarkable condition, 1922 vintage Buescher True Tone baritone saxophone in original silver plate, serial number 116220. This bari features original matte silver plated body with shiny silver keys and inlay engraving on the bell. It is in fantastic shape despite nearing its 100th birthday! The sax has good pads and is a great horn for vintage sax lovers or part-time bari players.

This is a true vintage Buescher, as such, it has a limited range compared to modern horns, with keywork from low Bb up to high Eb. Its silver plating is a solid 95%+ intact, and while there is tarnish developing here and there, all of that is purely cosmetic and can easily be polished off. The sax shows signs of past dent work in the bottom bow, and those lower body keyguards have been resoldered, but the work was done so well that it hides in the silver plating, and is very hard to spot. The upper crook and the original neck are in perfect condition with no previous repairs.

This sax was repadded in the last few years, and pads are still in very good shape. All are fitted with the original metal domed Buescher snap-in resonators. The keywork lays out well under fingers, and the sax is playing up a storm on its existing pad job. In order to keep the price down, we will not be doing our full pro set up, but one of our techs will make sure it is sealing well before shipping, and do some hand polishing to clean up some of the tarnish on the back side of the tube.

This bari plays with a definite darker quality, with good presence in the bell keys and a slightly more spread tonality. It's a solid instrument for players looking for a quality professional level bari on the cheap. In its day, this was a top-of-the-line sax and is still a fine player after all this time. Ships in a good hard case.
