HELP, I Want One!

Super Tenor Sax – Selmer Paris 1933
This is a vintage Selmer Paris “Super” tenor saxophone, serial #18037. These Super tenors are tremendous free blowing players and are great for anyone looking for a very low resistance kind of saxophone. Most of the lacquer is off of the saxophone at this point which is probably one of the things giving it such a tremendously free blowing and brilliant sound character.  In comparison to some of the other Super tenors we have had in the shop this one does seem to be a little on the brighter side. The key action feels smooth and fluid under the fingers allowing for quick movement across all registers.
This tenor is currently in the Saxquest shop awaiting a professional set-up. The set-up will include a complete dissemble and cleaning followed by a precise regulation of the key work. Its current set of leather pads and brown plastic resonators are in great shape and have plenty of life left in them. Once the work is complete this saxophone will be in perfect playing condition.
The Super is in incredible physical condition for its vintage. It does still have some original lacquer remaining which is impressive considering the vast majority of Supers around today have been re-lacquered. Almost more impressive then the lacquer is how crisp the original engraving is. (Picture 26 ) The previous owner did a very good job of keeping it serviced over the years. There is some history of past body work. Because the work was done professionally and because there is not much finish left on the horn it is a little hard to see the repairs. But again this is because the work was done very well. The body tube side of the bell to body brace has been repaired in the past (picture 22). It also looks like the alternate F# key guard has also been reattached at some point. The bow, bow cap and bell are all in amazing physical condition. The bow cap has no signs it was ever pushed in. This saxophone does include the original neck. The neck was previously pulled down very slightly but it will be corrected in our shop as part of the Saxquest set-up.
If you are looking for a serious straight ahead jazz tenor do not underestimate these Supers. Tenor ships in perfect playing condition with vintage box case.
