This is a vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone in original lacquer finish, serial #59508. The alto shows off a richly dark honey tinted finish which is further complemented by the clean engraving around the bell. The body does have some honest play wear on it but over all it is in remarkable condition. It was also just freshly overhauled in our shop and is now in perfect playing condition with all new pads, metal domed resonators and all new corks and felts.
Looking over the alto very carefully it looks like it received a normal amount of play time in its day and was then put in the case unused for a long time. The body tube, bow, bow cap, bell and bell flare are all in excellent original condition. There is no trace of major past dent work on this sax. It has received no re-solder repair in the past. All of the original key work, guards and pearls are intact on this alto. The Mark VI alto is also with the original neck and matching serial number stamp. At some point in the past the previous owner removed the lacquer from the neck. It is now in raw brass. Fortunately it does not appear there was ever any major repair to the neck. It has never been pulled down.
These early Mark VI's are well known for their robust dark sounds and this one is certainly no exception. It is extremely free blowing in response and has a tremendous sonic character. This is an ideal alto for the straight ahead jazz player looking for a darker color with out sacrificing definition and projection. Ships out in perfect playing condition with a fresh overhaul from our shop in the original Selmer wood hard case.
