Mark VI Alto – High F#
This is a very nice Selmer Paris Mark VI in original lacquer with factory original high F# key, serial number 178573. These later Mark VI altos from the 1970's are ideal for the professional looking for a versatile instrument. As a player this alto has a richly centered sound with a warm color. It takes the air in quick and smooth while demonstrating a beautifully balanced response across all registers. This alto is more focused compared to the earlier Mark VI's from the 1950's but is still much more open and “free blowing” in comparison to the modern professional Selmer being made today. The key work on this alto feels ultra fluid under the fingers allowing for a positive playing experience. The alto is keyed to high F#.
The last owner was an active classical player and a former student of saxophone professor Harvey Pittel. The body of the alto is in incredible condition for its vintage. It does show signs it was well played by the last owner while being well cared for. The body tube, bow, bow cap, bell and bell flare are all in great shape. There is no history of any major past repair to the body and no re-solders. All of the key guards and guard feet are also in great shape. This saxophone comes with the original neck in good shape. The neck has never been pulled down.
This alto came into our shop playing on a very old set of leather pads. As the pads are past their prime this sax is currently in line awaiting a complete re-pad in our shop. The professional overhaul will include a dissemble and cleaning followed by precise key fitting, cork, felts and pad work. Once complete it will be sporting all new Valentino premium pro pads, brown nylon resonators and all new corks and felts.
The Mark VI alto ships out in perfect playing condition with our professional overhaul, original C* Soloist mouthpiece and case.
