Beautiful Original Lacquer – Mark VI 1957

This is a stunning Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone in original lacquer finish, serial number 71926. If you are looking for a beautiful horn that still has a fresh look to it then this 1957 vintage VI is not going to disappoint. It has just a little bit of honest play wear from past use but does not look like it has ever seen extensive playing. The lacquer shows the lush dark honey tint which is nicely complemented by the crisp floral engraving, All of the original key work, pearls and key guards are in fabulous original condition. The body tube, bow, bow cap, bell and bell flare are also all in outstanding original condition. This alto includes the original neck with matching serial number stamp. It looks like someone was a little careless in the past while re-doing a neck cork and removed some of the finish just below where the cork currently stops. But the neck has never received major repair and has never been pulled down. This alto features the preferred medium bow length.

The Mark VI altos from the mid to late 1950's tend to feature a much warmer color and thicker “spread” to their sound. These are preferred instruments for players looking for a slightly darker color and an open core which is very flexible. This particular alto does not look like it has ever been seriously serviced in the past. It came into our shop with all of the original factory pads and metal screw back resonators. At this time all of the pads are past their prime and the alto will need to be mechanically overhauled before it is ready for playing. As such it is currently awaiting its turn for a professional overhaul in our shop. The Saxquest overhaul will include a dissemble, cleaning, precise key fitting and regulation. Once complete it will be in perfect playing condition with a new set of corks, felts and Valentino Premium Pro Pads. Our tech will also re-use the original set of metal screw back resonators.
