Vintage Martin Lion and Crown Engraved - 1940

This is an original lacquer Martin Committee II tenor saxophone from 1940, serial #139732. The tenor shows off an original lacquer finish and is in great physical condition. It does have a modest amount of cosmetic character for a tenor of its vintage but has never seen any serious repair. The body tube, bow and bow cap all look fantastic. There is no history of the bow cap ever being pushed in. All of the key guards and key guard feet are in great shape and do not show any re-solders. The original neck with matching serial number stamp is included and is also in good condition. This 1940 vintage Martin features the classic Lion and Crown engraving on the bell. This saxophone also has an improved after market thumb rest which was made specifically for a Martin.

These tenors show case one of the richest vintage sounds out there. This one in particular has a super free breathing response and can be played with a considerable amount of punch. Its key work feels nice a fluid under the fingers allowing for an easy and fast play. The Martin was last worked on in another shop and features a set of leather pads and metal resonators. Right now it is playing nicely in as is condition so we are selling it with out or set-up in order to keep the cost down. This is an ideal horn for the jazz tenor player out there looking to get a solid gig horn for under 2,000.

If you would like to add a Saxquest set-up to the cost of the horn please make the selection with the drop down menu. This will include replaced of all of the key materials and a precise regulation of the instrument.

This saxophone ships in a nice countered SKB case.
