Early 50s Vintage MEYER BROS
Here we have a 1950s vintage Meyer Bros New York 5M for tenor saxophone in hard rubber, tip opening 0.077 inch/1.95 mm. This mouthpiece features a rolled tip baffle, rounded sidewalls, and a beautifully shaped medium chamber. Physically, the oxidation has crept onto the whole exterior while leaving select areas and the interior alone; this does not affect the way the mouthpiece plays. The beak has only very light teeth marks and the engravings are still prominent, although lacking engraving paint.
This piece has very well-kept side rails, only a few indentations on the rail tip, but it plays great. With a tip opening so small, you wouldn't expect such a full, rich, complex tone to accompany. The sidewalls have a unique, to Meyer Bros, curvature to help redirect air efficiently towards the throat. These features in combination with the high quality hard rubber contribute to the lush tone.
Meyer Bros, during the 1950s, crafted pieces for the most iconic members of the music industry in New York, so you know this piece was crafted by a master.
This piece ships as-is without ligature or mouthpiece cap.
