HELP, I Want One!

Ships in Hiscox Artist Case

Here's a sweet 1958/59 vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone, serial number 80353. This alto was made in the sweet spot between 72xxx – 87xxx when Selmer was making the Mark VI with a medium bow, before they switched production to long bow models. This is a great player's alto and has recently been overhauled by the KB Sax shop in New York.

As you can see in the photos, this alto was stripped a long time ago, and is now bare brass. This was most likely done in an attempt to open up, or free, its sound, and it's hard to argue with results. This alto plays very freely with a nice fat sound and big voice, from low Bb up into the palm keys. If you are just looking for a certain tone and don't care about cosmetics, this is a great option for you.

Having said that, while there isn't any lacquer on the horn, it is physically straight. The tube is straight, the bottom bow and bell flare show no history of past dent work or trauma, and the original neck has never been pulled down. The only prior repairs I can spot are a couple resolders on some of the lower body keyguards, all done very well. The fresh overhaul included all new pads and material, with oversized machined flat metal, screwback resonators, for a premium look at sound. The horn feels great under your fingers and is just starting to get that “broken in” feel.

Though it has the recent overhaul, we'll give this alto a once-over in our repair shop before shipping, just to make sure everything is sealing properly. It ships out in a premium Hiscox Artist series case.
