Excellent Condition THE MARTIN TENOR

This is a very nice original lacquer Martin Committee III tenor sax, serial number 166538. This tenor has been professionally played but never abused, and is in solid shape, ready for a new owner to enjoy it.

As you can see in the photos, the original lacquer is in good overall condition. It has mostly specklish wear in the upper part of the body tube, some lacquer crazing that is flaking off a bit, all purely cosmetic. The horn is solid physically, with no resolders or past repairs. There is currently 1 slightly pushed in post and a couple tiny pings in the bottom bow, all of which we will fix. The bell flare is perfect, the bottom bow has never taken a serious hit, and the bell-to-body brace has never been pushed in. The sax does have its original neck with matching serial number. The neck was once slightly pulled down (has been corrected) and is missing the original tightening screw, but we'll manufacture or find a suitable replacement.

This tenor is currently in line in our repair shop for a complete overhaul. We'll take it apart, clean it, and replace all pads and material. The previous owner had added an extension onto the G key, which we'll most likely remove (at buyer's request) to make the horn more “factory.” It will ship in perfect adjustment and backed by our full year mechanical warranty.

The versatility in this Martins is amazing, I don't think they get enough credit for what they can do. This tenor plays with a quick, lively response and isn't overly dark. While it does provide a bit of positive resistance to give you something to push against, it remains a very free blowing and resonant instrument. I found that I could move a lot of air through it, and never felt like I was hitting a barrier. A good “player's” tenor at a great price. Ships in its original case, which has 1 broken latch, though the other 2 work just fine.
