Kohlert Winneden Tenor Sax Made in Germany
This is a very cool Unique post war vintage Kohlert & Co Winneden tenor saxophone, serial #11540.  We do not see a lot of these horns. After play testing this tenor I was reminded what a hidden gem they can be to a pro player. This particular horn is ultra responsive and free blowing. It has a fairly robust sonic character and is capable of putting out a ton of power and volume.

The red and gold finish looks incredible and is in pristine condition. Its body does not show any signs it has ever received serious past repair. The neck is also in great shape. These saxophones were made with rolled tone holes, left side bell keys and comfortable key work. They do not have an articulated G# key. It is unlikely the finish on this saxophone is factory original, but that being said it is in great shape and is quite striking looking.

These saxophones play with a classic vintage German vibe. Big sound, powerful and very free blowing. They are very similar to vintage Couf and Keilwerth models from the same period. This particular tenor looks like it was overhauled quite some time ago and has been only lightly played since. They used leather pads and domed nylon resonators. Most of the pads are still in good shape but some of them could stand to be replaced. You might be able to get by with just putting in a standard pc and set-up. But many techs out there are most likely going to tell you it will ultimately need to be overhauled to be considered “perfect”. Currently it is playing nicely with some leaks from top to bottom.

These are great players and the finish on this one makes it a very special instrument. This sax ships in as is condition with a sturdy wood hard case.
