HELP, I Want One!

Here's a beauty to take your breath away: a custom restored King Super 20 tenor sax with pearl side keys, serial number 303235. This horn was relacquered awhile back, but done as well as you'll ever see, and for a neat bonus, the keywork was all silver plated. Some of the later King tenors have a similar look with nickel plated keys, but the silver plating here really pops, making for a very cool look.

As you can see in the photos, this is about the best relacquer job around. The engraving is all factory original, not re-cut, and it stands out as clear and defined as any original lacquer Super 20. The sax was obviously not buffed during the work, with the previous finish chemically removed. The only previous repair I can find on the horn is the alt F# keyguard, while looks to have been resoldered before the horn was relacquered. I see no other prior repairs: no signs of past dent work and no other resolders. The original neck has the matching serial number, and it was never pulled down or damaged. It has the double docket receiver, underslung octave key, and is full sterling silver, all original.

This tenor was last repadded using leather pads and Noyek waffle style metal resonators. The pads are still in great shape, though we will replace a couple in the upper stack that are starting to age. This sax will get a thorough check up in our repair shop before shipping, where we'll do the necessary pad work and replace any other material not up to our code. We'll also regulate the stacks for proper feel and response.

This tenor plays exactly how you want from a quality earlier vintage Super 20. Big, bold sound, with a very fast response and a clarity of tone that carries well to the back of the room. While it definitely has plenty of power, you can take it down a notch when needed, and this horn is versatile enough to hang with the best of them for anything from ballads to funk to rock and roll.
