Freshly overhauled 1954 vintage King Super 20 tenor sax, serial number 339570. This era of the Super 20 features pearl side keys on most of the touch points, as well as “sunburst” style engraving on the low B/Bb key cups and a sterling silver double socket neck with underslung octave key. This tenor was just overhauled in our shop and ships ready to go for a long time to come.

As you can see in the photos, this horn was relacquered long ago, but done fairly well. The floral detail in the engraving remains very defined with no evidence of major buffing in the past. This tenor was completely restored in our shop by our most senior tech, George Bunk, who really took to the time to make it right. One pearl touch point (table G# key) was missing, so George shaped a new pearl there, and also remade a couple rollers. All looks spectacular. The horn is straight, with all new pads, corks, and felts. Pads have been fitted with seamless oversized slightly domed metal resonators, and the action really pops under your fingers! The neck is not the original, but is from the same era, with serial number 299507.

This tenor plays with all of the sonic characteristics you want from a quality Super 20. Lightning fast response, with a ton of power from low Bb up into the altissimo, which just explodes out of the horn. It's a whole lot of fun to play, and an excellent choice for the player looking for the classic rock sound.
