New Wonder Series II in Gold Plate
This is a great alto for the player seeking a classic jazz age instrument, serial number 197500.
The gold plated Conns are very sought after for their extremely resonant and lush sound, this one is no exception.  This horn sits right in the highly desired C.G.Conn pre-great depression serial number range (195xxx-230xxx).  These horns are known for their high quality raw materials, and their vintage American craftsmanship.
As it sits right now it is on a mismatched set of pads that are unfortunately too big for the key cups.  It is playing enough as it sits for Austin to be able to shoot a video on, but it should be noted that it definitely needs work before any serious playing should be played on it.  These horns sell for upwards of $2500 with an overhaul but currently our shop is so backed up we are opting to pass the savings on to you.  If you have an at home bench or a favorite tech to take it to, this could be a screaming deal.  As always, we would be happy to do the work for you and if you so desire, simply select the add overhaul icon in the top right corner and we will add it to the sale for you.
Physically, this horn is a diamond in the rough.  Outside of the bad pad job and the dent to the bottom bow, this alto is about as straight as they come.  Sporting about 90% original gold plate with just minor wear to the touch points the horn is stunning and will only look better when cleaned.  There were previously 2 re-solders to this horn, one to the low Eb stop for the spatula, as well as one to the high F palm key saddle.  Another thing is that unfortunately someone tried to unscrew the seized rollers on this horn and broke out all the original mother of pearl rollers except the Bb.  We have replacement mother of pearl rollers in our shop we can offer as a part of a vintage restoration if you so desire to add it to the purchase.  The original neck is included with the horn and has never be pulled down.  It should be noted that at some point both the neck tenon and mouthpiece receiver have come out of round, this can be easily corrected by a knowledgeable tech.
Don't miss out on a great deal on piece of Americana as well as a killing original gold alto.  Ships out in a good hard case.
If you would like to add a Saxquest overhaul to this instrument please make the selection with the drop down when adding the item to the cart. The current turn around time for a major overhaul like this one is approximately 8 to 10 weeks at this time. The overhaul includes cleaning up the bow area and replacing the pearl rollers. It will feature all new pad, metal resonators, new corks, felts and a top notch key regulation. Please let us know if you have any questions.
