Buescher Top Hat and Cane
This is a vintage Buescher 400 “Top Hat and Cane” tenor saxophone, serial number 319797. The saxophone has seen plenty of play time in its life but has a great look and is in very solid condition. The finish was re-done on it at some point in the past. Due to the quality of the lacquer and crispness of the engraving this was most likely done at the Buescher factory.
The body of the saxophone is in pretty straight forward physical condition showing a normal amount of cosmetic play wear. Some smaller dings can be seen around the lower bow area of the horn but there is no history of major past repair to the body. The saxophone is with the original neck. This neck was once repaired for a pull down but is now in good shape at its true angle. The Buescher is with all of the original Buescher “Snap” resonators, amber rollers and all but one of its original gold plated springs. (missing low C)
It has been quite some time since this sax has seen any professional service work. The pads on it are very old and some of them are starting to come apart. This sax will not be ready for any serious playing until it receives a complete mechanical overhaul. All done up this sax would be a phenomenal free blowing player. But because our shop schedule is very backed up we are offering this saxophone at a heavily reduced price in as is condition. If you have a preferred tech in mind this is a way to get into a great Buescher at a premium price.
If you would really like us to do the professional overhaul on this saxophone and have some time to wait please make the selection on the drop down menu when adding the item to the shopping cart. Please keep in mind current overhaul turnaround time in our shop is 8-12 weeks at this time. The overhaul would include dissemble, cleaning, key fitting and removing of the dings around the bow. Once complete it would be in perfect playing condition with all new pads and key materials.
Ships with a hard wood box case.
