Nice Collector's Piece at a Low Price

This is an old vintage Adolphe Sax alto saxophone, serial number 1123. This horn was manufactured by Adolphe Sax's son Adolphe Edouard Sax, when his manufacturing and offices were at the 84 Rue Myrha address. It is a cool old horn for sax collectors, and we'll get it playing too, so it can me more than just a wall-hanger!

Unlike the very early original Adolphe horns, this later vintage model has fairly modern keywork, with a range from low Bb up to high F, and even has a front F mechanism. Most likely the horn was originally bare brass, but was later given a coat of lacquer, though this “newer” lacquer still looks to be 70+ years old. It is in good shape, with a good 90% lacquer intact. There are some signs of previous minor dent work in the bottom bow, but no serious past damages or trauma. The original neck is in great shape too. This alto was repadded not long ago, using firm leather pads and metal resonators. We'll put the horn through our repair shop for a fresh regulation before shipping, where we will adjust key heights and make sure the pads are properly sealing.

Whether you are a hobbyist or a serious collector, this is a neat instrument and part of the history of the instrument we all love. Priced well below what some of the older Adolphe horns go for, it would be a nice addition to any collection. Ships in a hard case.
