Store Information
This is a sweet 1932 vintage CG Conn “transitional” alto sax at a great price, serial number 252891. This alto is very much like a 6M but without the naked lady engraving. It features same side bell keys, improved 6M style tale keys, and double socket microtuner neck with underslung octave key. It will ship with a fresh adjustment from our shop and be ready to go for the long haul.
If I had to guess, this sax was originally shipped from the factory as a bare brass horn, which was a rare option at the time, but not unheard of. The unlacquered varieties did not have the detailed floral engraving that their plated cousins had, and this alto features just the Conn name on the bell. It was later lacquered, and the coating certainly looks factory. Rolled tone holes are all in great shape and the horn is in fantastic condition. There's currently a couple minor dings in the bottom bow, which we will remove during our regulation, and one post in the body tube has been slightly pushed in (most likely shipping damage), which we will also take out and resolder back properly. No other damages or previous repairs, and the original neck has never been pulled down.
Pads are all just a couple years old, fitted with brown plastic resonators, so after our fresh set up, it will be in top playing shape. The sax plays with a rich sound while staying very open, with a spread and free blowing nature. For the player who loves the classic Conn 6M sound and feel, you won't find a better deal on a sax that is ready to go. Ships in a sturdy hard case.
