This is a very clean vintage Martin Committee III tenor sax, serial number 163338. This “The Martin Tenor” dates to 1947, just a couple years after the introduction of this model, which would go on to become Martin's most popular and arguably the best sax they ever made. It has recently been repadded, and is ready to go for its new owner.

The original lacquer on this horn is in solid shape, with light wear and tear from regular use. Often on these old Martin's, the lacquer on the bell has worn off around the engraving, but it looks quite nice on this tenor. There's some history of past dent work in the bottom bow and bell flare, but no resolders or other previous repairs. The original neck has the matching serial number, and has never been pulled down.

This tenor was repadded in another shop, and honestly it isn't quite up to our standards, but it is a decent enough job for a player's horn. The pads are fitted with brown plastic resonators, and while the action hasn't been optimized and is a bit clicky in spots, the pads are sealing well. Rather than do a bunch of work and inflate the price, we made the decision to sell this horn as-is on the existing set up. If you are looking for a solid player on a budget, this sax will get the job done.

These old Martin horns are severely underrated, and they are some of the best tenors you can get for the price. This sax plays with a big, bold sound, with good response and a fat bottom end. Ships with original metal end plug and in its original case.
