Store Information
This is a very straight American engraved Selmer Paris Mark VI tenor sax, serial number 133292. Serial number dates this sax to 1966, and it remains in stellar physical condition despite approaching 60 years old. There's a fair amount of lacquer wear from honest use, but the sax has obviously never been abused.
Much of the lacquer wear is found on the back side of the body tube and bell, where it may rest against the player during use. The “front” of the horn shows little wear and looks amazing. Even better, there are no signs of any past damage or repair to the bottom bow, bell flare, or original neck (which does show the matching serial number). This include no resolders anywhere. A couple very shallow pings here and there, but that's it, and those will be removed by our shop during its upcoming work.
This sax has never had a good, complete overhaul, so we're going to do it up right. We'll replace all pads, springs, and material. The sax is currently showing a moderate amount of accumulated dirt and grime in between the keys; all of that will be hand cleaned so as to not hurt the remaining lacquer. We'll use premium firm leather pads matched with oversized, seamless metal resonators, and regulate the action so that it feels brand new. Once complete, the horn will be playing as well (or better!) than the day it left the factory.
The horn is leaking pretty bad as it sits, so I can't wait to play it once we complete our restoration. I tend to find these mid-60s post-5 digit VI's to have a slightly broader sound and maybe just a bit brighter than the earlier models, while losing none of the strong foundational core that sets a Mark VI apart from all the rest.
Ships in its original Selmer gray zippered case.
