This is a late 60s vintage Yanagisawa T40 “Prima” model tenor saxophone, serial number 174210. This tenor has a very unique look, with a silver plated body and gold plated keywork. It also features some cool engraving on the bell, showing that Yani was up to some unique stuff in the early years of their company, before moving to the more streamlined approach you see today.

I'm 50/50 on whether the silver on this horn is original or not. If it isn't, it looks amazingly clean, and even the finest detail of the engraving is crisp and sharp. I've seen silver Yani's before obviously, but not one with gold keys, so my guess is that it was factory replated at some point in its life. The sax also has a set of newer pads, all in good shape. The horn will get a thorough adjustment from our repair shop before shipping, where we'll replace most of the key adjustment material with better stuff, and even out the spring tensions and keys throughout.

This tenor is in exquisite condition, with no obvious signs of distress or prior repair. The neck has never been pulled down, the bottom bow is perfect, and the bell flare has never been bent. A real gem, from a time when the Yanagisawa company was exploring various techniques and laying the groundwork for the popular models that were to follow.

Sonically, this tenor plays a bit on the brighter side, and extremely free blowing and resonant. We haven't set it up yet, so I expect it to be even better once our work is complete. Very big sounding and responsive horn. Ships in a leather Gard gig big.
