This is a very beautiful original lacquer Martin Handcraft alto, serial number 116055. As you can see this horn is in fantastic shape and is a great example of a vintage Martin “skyline” alto sax. The Lacquer is 95%+ intact; aside from typical wear there is just one very small area near the bell brace that shows noticeable lacquer wear. The body of the horn is physically in pristine shape. The bell flair and the bottom bow of the instrument are both in great shape and show no signs of previous dents or other damage. This horn also shows no signs or re-solders. All the key work and pearls of this instrument are original. This horn also includes the original neck with matching serial number, also in stellar shape.

Saxquest overhauled this alto about 10 years ago for its last owner, who is now letting it go. The pad work is still holding well, but the horn has been played; as such, it will get a fresh cleaning a new pro set up before shipping. We'll clean the body, clean and reseat all pads (replacing any that are starting to wear), as well as all of the key adjustment material. Finally, we'll optimize key heights and spring tensions with a fresh adjustment.

This Martin Skyline plays with a rich, colorful sound, with more spread than you typically find on more modern instruments. These first series Martin Committee horns are tough to find in good shape. If you love these old classic American made instruments, you'd be hard pressed to find one in nicer condition.
