HELP, I Want One!

Awesome Pro Player! Reference 36
This is a used Selmer Paris Reference 36 tenor saxophone in gold lacquer finish, serial number 617819. The Reference 36 was made in the spirit of the Selmer Super Balanced Action tenor saxophones, released in 1936. These saxophones are a showcase of top notch craftsmanship by Selmer Paris. The increased radius of the bottom bow is designed to give a more robust sound throughout the entire range of the instrument. This particular sax has a warm core sound which is slightly more focused in contrast to the Reference 54 models. Like many of the early vintage Selmer Mark VI's and SBA's this saxophone does play with a dark timbre, but this one is slightly brighter playing if you are comparing against a dark matte finish tenor. It is a very flexible pro player that shines in any musical setting.
The Reference tenor has seen plenty of play time in the past and has history of past repair. It shows standard cosmetic play wear of light scratches and a few smaller dings. There is also some traces of acid bleed on the gold finish. “Acid Bleed” is the discoloration of the finish caused by moisture coming to the surface of the lacquer, this is a result of the manufacturing process. This type of wear is fairly common on Selmers and is only cosmetic. The body tube of the sax is in great shape as is the bow area. Its bow cap is perfect and has never been pushed in. The bell flare of the sax does show blemishing from a past repair. ( Picture 19 ) This saxophone shows no history of ever receiving any past solder work. The original neck is with this saxophone. It does show the history of past repair ( pictures 23-28 )
This Reference came into our shop playing on an older set-up on mostly original pads. As it has been some time since it has received some TLC it is currently in line for a professional set-up in our shop. The set-up will include a dissemble, cleaning and a precise key regulation. While the sax is apart we will also replace a small number of pads in the upper stack as well as putting on a complete set of new felts and corks. This saxophone is ideal for anyone looking to get into a professional Selmer at a great price. These saxophones currently sell new for over 8,000 so if you do not mind a little built in cosmetic character this one is a perfect choice.
The used Reference 36 ships out in perfect playing condition with our pro set-up and an older Selmer box case. Please let us know if you have any questions.
