Mark VI – Sanborn Vintage
This is a vintage Selmer Paris Mark VI alto saxophone with high F#, serial number 142762. The Mark VI altos in this serial number range are famous for their use by David Sanborn among many others. This alto is currently awaiting a professional mechanical overhaul in the Saxquest shop and ships in perfect playing condition. The Saxquest overhaul will include a complete disassemble and cleaning of the instrument followed by precise regulation and replacement of all pads and materials. Once complete the sax will be sporting a new set of Valentino premium leather pads, brown nylon resonators as well as all new corks and felts. While the sax is in our shop we will also address all of the small dings on the horn.
The pictures really tell the story of this saxophone the best. It was re-lacquered at some point in the past and has seen plenty of performances in its life. The instrument does show a history of some body work. The saxophone includes the original neck. Its neck has been slightly pulled down in the past but will be brought back up to its true position while it is in our shop. This Mark VI saxophone showcases the Mark VI side stamp on the side of the body tube as well as a high F# key. At the time this saxophone was manufactured the high F# was only available as a special order item.
This alto has a quick and crisp response to air flow and a beautiful medium warm sound. The projection is absolutely exceptional on this instrument. It will be an absolute treat to play test this instrument once the overhaul in the shop is complete. Due to COVID our play test video sessions are  running behind but we are hoping to have a video of this sax posted in the near future. Please take a look at the photos and let us know if you have any questions. You can also send questions direct to zac@saxquest.com.
Insturment ships in newer Selmer wood hard case.
