PF Tenor Madness Flier Tenor Sax in Matte Lacquer #00010
Burning Modern Horn - Early TM
Here we have an early instrument from Tenor Madness, the PF & Tenor Madness Flier tenor, serial #00010. TM Custom is known for their simple but revolutionary resonators, their tenors and altos, as well as their repair services over the years.
This sax comes equipped with full chromatic key work from low Bb up to high F#, two necks, one with the serial #00003 and the other with a matching serial, mother-of-pearl key touches on the upper and lower stacks, and drawn straight tone holes. The body features a matte brushed finish and a simple engraving of a man and woman playing sax back to back on the bell.
The Flier plays with a lively character, full and focused with a morsel of brilliance from top to bottom that really helps you cut through a noisy room. The intonation is absolutely solid for a professional level player. A jazz player would find good use out of this, as well as in numerous commercial music applications.
This tenor currently plays as it is, but could use an overhaul with a full re-spring. Fortunately there is no body damage, evidence of past dent repair, nor resolders; the materials have naturally reached their limit from use while the springs have acquired a lot of rust.
