Gorgeous Master Link #4 For Alto

This is a vintage Master Link NY #4 metal mouthpiece for alto, serial N75. These mouthpieces were manufactured in the early 1930s by Otto Link, plated in gold with a brass core.

The outer body of this piece is in very good condition. This Otto Link #4 facing mouthpiece measures at 0.060-inches/1.52mm in the dead-center of the tip. The engraving and stamping looks perfect still, there are some light scrapes from the ligature on the body, very light teeth marks on the beak. The table and side rails are in decent shape. Unfortunately the tip rail has seen some damage at some point, most likely a result of being dropped.

At this time the piece does still play. It has a warm and centered sound. These pieces tend to be pretty dark players but this one also has an intriguing clarity to it. The piece could stand to be worked on and opened up a bit depending on your taste.

Due to the early vintage of this piece it is more viable as a collectors item. These earlier pieces are harder to play at modern volumes but feature rich and unique character. It should also be noted that the bore of the inner shank is much smaller compared to modern pieces. Using this piece on most altos is going to require a very thin neck cork.

The piece ships with the original slide ligature as well as a slightly later Otto Link ligature, does not include cap.
