HELP, I Want One!

This is a late vintage (1952) Selmer Paris Super Balanced Action tenor sax in original lacquer, serial number 49802. This tenor is an American engraved model, featuring elaborate floral engraving wrapping all around the bell and extending down onto the bottom bow. It has like-new pads and will get a fresh adjustment from our repair shop before shipping, so it will come to you in perfect regulation.

The original lacquer on this tenor is in solid shape, with most of the wear found on the back side of the tube and bell, where the sax may rest against the player during play. There are a handful of very tiny pencil-point dings here and there, but no serious past dents, dent repair, or trauma. There is one resoldered joint, on one foot of the low Eb keyguard. Unfortunately the original neck has been lost, but a premium replacement is with the sax now. The sax has been matched with a Boston Sax Shop Heritage series neck in unlacquered brass. With this neck, the tonal color and response is still retained from what you'd find on an original Selmer neck.

This tenor was repadded in another shop, using premium firm leather pads and seamless, slightly domed metal resonators. While the pads are in like-new shape and sealing well, the sax didn't feel optimal when it came in to our shop, so it will get a thorough cleaning and adjustment. We'll optimize key heights and spring tensions throughout, do all of the proper key fitting so that the action is precise and comfortable, and make sure the replacement neck is properly fitted to the sax.

This tenor plays just as you want from a late vintage SBA. Full, colorful voice with lots of projection and power. Dynamic player from top to bottom; it stays fat and lush from low Bb up into the altissimo. The Heritage neck is a fantastic match and you lose nothing sonically. A great horn for players who love the classic, vintage Selmer sound.
