Freshly Restored & a Fantastic Player!

Beautifully overhauled original lacquer Martin Magna tenor saxophone, serial number 210659. The Magna shares many characteristics with the Committee III horns from the same era (“The Martin Tenor” saxes), but it was Martin's tricked out, premium model. Rare to find in original lacquer, this beauty has just been restored in our shop and is ready to go.

The “front” of this tenor shows little lacquer wear despite its age, and looks incredible. There is a bit more playing wear on the backside of the sax, regular lacquer wear on the tube and bottom bow, from regular play. But the sax shows no signs of past trauma or major repair. The major past dent work and the sax is straight as an arrow. The original neck showing the matching serial number, and it has never been pulled down.

This tenor was repadded using premium firm leather pads and (very) oversized slightly domed metal resonators. It has been set up for the ideal vintage Martin feel, with a lighter spring tension which feels effortless and quick under your fingers.

This is a very full sounding horn. It takes your air very quickly and its sound is fat and big! Slightly more spread but maybe not as much as a Conn, and it has a nice response, especially down in the bottom end. As you climb into the palm keys and altissimo, its tone stays round and powerful. Very cool tenor all around.
