This is a first series Martin Handcraft Committee bari sax in original lacquer, serial number 124698. Often called the Martin “Skyline” horns because of the engraving pattern on the bell, these are rare to find in original lacquer; the vast majority have been relacquered at some point over the years. This one still shows good original lacquer coverage, and will ship with a fresh setup from the Saxquest repair shop.

As you can see in the photos, the horn does show some history of dent repair in the bell flare and bottom bow, but all work has been done and the sax is pretty straight as it sits. Pads have also been replaced as needed over the years, and they honestly are in pretty good shape. There's a handful of older pads, but the vast majority are in excellent shape with lots of life left in them. Everything is sealing pretty well, but the keywork is pretty clicky, so the sax will get a fresh adjustment from our shop before we send it out. We'll make sure pads are covering well, and the action and spring work are in optimal regulation.

This Martin bari plays with a beefy sound and excellent projection. While it has an overall spread quality, it still retains a strong core that you can push. It's a fantastic horn for players who dig that classic American made horns, with resonance that you don't often find on saxes made today.
