This is a 1950 vintage C.G. Conn 6M alto sax in excellent original lacquer, serial number 338812. This alto is perfect for the player on a budget. Anyone that loves classical American made vintage saxes but doesn't want to beak the bank will like this horn.

Produced in 1950, this 6M no longer has rolled tone holes, but is otherwise exactly the same as the earlier (and more expensive) models. It features the iconic “naked lady” engraving on the bell, trill G#, improved table keys over the previous “Chu” models, and the neck has a double socket receiver, microtuner mechanism, and underslung octave key.

This horn has been played but never abused. There a few minor dings and dimples (all cosmetic) but no serious past dents or dent repair. The sax shows no resolders or previous repairs. It was just recently serviced in another shop and all pads are excellent condition with years of life ahead of them, all fitted with brown plastic resonators. The action is set up just like you want a Conn, with a lively, quick feel and smooth, lighter spring tensions.

For a “budget” horn, this sax really wails! It plays with a fat, spread sound and provides plenty of punch and projection, without losing color of tone or presence. I pushed a whole lot of air through and it never bottomed out on me. A great sax for jazz or rock, and at a price that is hard to argue with.
